The system of tasks is based on the models of functional-semantic types of speech (description, narration, explanation, reasoning, instruction); the materials for work are authentic popular-science and scientific texts, as well as popular-science video lectures.

The first part of the study guide includes 11 lessons (1 – 11; the last one is a revision lesson). The retention of lexico-grammatical material is rated approximately for 160-200 contact hours. The aim of the first part of the study guide is to develop in trainees the basic language and speech skills, related to solving elementary communicative problems.

The study guide includes an introductory phonetic course, the basic knowledge about the parts of speech and sentence parts, as well as two-member sentence structure. Trainees will study the singular nouns and personal pronouns declension system, imperfective verb conjugation, and verbs of movement without prefixes. They will learn how to express temporal, cause-and-effect, target, comparative, and spatial relations by the means corresponding to this teaching stage. At the end of the study guide there are testing works to each lesson. The study guide has an audio application.

Russian Language: First Steps. 2

The study guide is intended for the foreigners beginning to study Russian language but already gained knowledge of the Russian two-member sentence structure and prepositional-nominal system of the Russian language, as well as having a vocabulary of 600-700 words. The second part of the study guide includes 9 lessons (12 – 20; the last one is a revision lesson). The retention of lexico-grammatical material is rated approximately for 200-240 contact hours.

The aim of the second part is to develop in trainees the basic language and speech skills, related to solving elementary communicative problems, mainly in the social and domestic sphere of communication. Information about the tense-aspect system of the Russian verb, declension of adjectives, possessive and demonstrative pronouns, and singular ordinal numerals are presented in the book. Trainees will get knowledge of the prepositional-nominal system, learn how to talk on the topics related to the description of simple events (narration), and adequately (in accordance with etiquette rules) conduct a dialogue in the situation of social interaction. At the end of the study guide there are testing works to each lesson. The study guide has an audio application. Keys to exercises are available on the publisher’s website. It is intended for the foreigners beginning to study Russian on the program of the First Certificate Level of foreign citizens' communicative competence.

The study guide is the last part of the training complex. The third part contains 10 lessons (21 – 30; the last one is a revision lesson). The retention of lexico-grammatical material is rated approximately for 200-240 contact hours. The study guide contains the information about the declension system of plural nouns, adjectives, pronouns, and ordinal numerals; application rules of adverbial participles and participles, and verbs of movement; ways of expressing temporal, cause-effect, conditional, target, and concessive relations. At the end of the study guide there are testing works to each lesson and the tables that will help trainees to align the knowledge on the Russian grammar at this stage. There is also an audio application. Keys to exercises are available on the publisher’s website. It is intended for the foreigners studying Russian on the program of the First Certificate Level and higher (B1+), already gained the knowledge on the prepositional-nominal system of nominative parts of speech and aspectual-temporal system.
